Marlborough medtech giant Boston Scientific is joining a membership-based research and development alliance founded by Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
The company has joined PracticePoint, which seeks to advance healthcare technologies by accelerating development of medical cyber-physical systems, according to WPI. The program is housed at WPI’s Gateway Park campus.
The college describes PracticePoint as an agile, scaleable research facility featuring a residential suite, rehabilitative care suit, controlled care suit and a surgical imaging suite, all of which are co-located with engineering and manufacturing capabilities where devices can be developed and tested.
“We’re very excited to have Boston Scientific recognize the potential for PracticePoint to further its research and development program and more quickly develop, iterate, and perfect medical technologies that can have a truly meaningful impact on patients,” said Greg Fischer, PracticePoint director.
PracticePoint was launched at WPI in April 2017 after a $5-million capital grant from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and $2.5 million from GE Life Sciences.
